Medical Practices and the Internet

Doctors are finding new ways to communicate with their patients and share their medical practices. They are doing this by following their patients on social media and live-streaming their surgeries. A very popular doctor, specifically on Instagram, shows her dermatology work and has become known as Dr. Pimple Popper. We also see medical practice in numerous tv shows and Youtube videos. The show, Grey’s Anatomy, follows doctors and shows numerous surgeries and life-threatening cases. Also in the show, characters will live tweet and live-stream their surgeries. Some surgeons have also posted their surgeries on YouTube. Some doctors find this to be educational and viewers find it to be interesting. However, others think this is a way for doctors to make more money. If more and more people watch their videos, the more fame and fortune they’ll get in return. Another concern is the confidentiality of patients. The patient may want the video to be eventually deleted but that doesn't necessarily mean that it'll completely go away.

The main debate is between whether the post is educational or is it just for money.
